A cut edge is a raw edge. Chipboard and MDF both drink water through one, which is how a kitchen carcass swells at the bottom two years after it went in.
We band on the machine, hot, so the adhesive line closes properly and the trim comes off flush in the same pass. Hand-glued banding lifts at the corner within a season, and you can feel the difference with a thumbnail on day one.
Tell us which edges show. There is no reason to band the back edge of a panel that lives against a wall, and not banding it is money you keep.
